DoJ Numbering System
The Department of Justice (DOJ) duplex-numeric system is a subject-numeric system based on a standard set of numerical codes that are separated by dashes. Its primary numbers referred to as "classes" (AKA Security Classified Classes) are usually identified with Federal laws, an act of Congress or a legal or administrative subject. Its secondary numbers represent the "judicial district" where the case began or to which it may relate. Its tertiary numbers identify each "file" pertaining to a case within a given judicial district.
